Receiving a Limited-Use Temple Recommend
Receiving a limited-use temple recommend is a joyful step on the covenant path. With it, youth and new members of the church can enter the house of the Lord to participate in baptisms and confirmations for ancestors. Here’s how you can prepare.
Step 1: Begin Preparation at Home (around Age 11 for youth)
- Talk as a family or with the missionaries about the purpose of temples and why they are sacred.
- Build habits of prayer, scripture study, and living gospel standards.
- For primary age youth, attend the Temple and Priesthood Preparation Meeting, usually held the year a child turns 11, organized by the Primary presidency with the bishopric’s direction.
Step 2: Schedule the Interview
- Reach out to the bishopric (online (kptward.com/appointment or through the executive secretary or clerk) to schedule a recommend interview.
- A bishop or counselor will ask simple questions about faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, gospel living, and sustaining Church leaders.
For youth or sisters, another trusted adult must be present—either in the room or nearby during the interview.
Step 3: Receive the Recommend
- If you are ready, the bishopric member will print and sign the recommend during the interview.
- The recommend is immediately active and allows you to participate in baptisms and confirmations for the dead.
- Limited-use recommends only require one interview.
Step 4: Plan a Temple Visit
- You can schedule your own trip to the temple online, go with your ministering brothers or sisters, or coordinate with the ward or stake youth leaders to join the next planned temple trip.
- Bring:
- Your temple recommend
- Sunday appropriate clothing (you'll change after you enter the temple)
- Baptismal clothing (provided at most temples)
- A spirit of reverence and gratitude
